Fully welded chassis in 5/16” (8mm) ,1/8” (3mm) plate and steel. Solid, precision ground, high tensile steel rails, on which the precision machined carriage carries the grinding head. Fully enclosed cabinet, of monocoque construction with door and drawer units, in painted mild steel, provides plenty of storage.
The specially formulated 6" (150mm) diameter aluminium oxide cup grinding wheel is mounted on a precision machined & balanced carrier, directly driven buy the special purpose motor unit. Plenty of power is supplied by a 2 HP (1.5kW), brushless induction motor. The compact design motor has heavy duty bearings and is fan cooled. The motor assembly is mounted precision ground vee guides (for precision in feed guidance )with the feed assembly rotatable through 45°to facilitate the hollow grinding of specific blades where appropriate. The whole carriage assembly runs on 6 sealed precision needle roller bearings NA22012RS. A retractable diamond stone dressing attachment is fitted to the blade mounting bar to allow the cup wheel to be trued up.
Two solid 2" (50mm) diameter hardened steel shafts 59” (1500mm) long, precision ground to a tolerance of +/- 0.005", radial deviation 0.00025", preset and checked during production to ensure a grinding tolerance of less than 0.00075" per ft.
Sturdy mounting bar assembly, fabricated & machined from solid steel sections, with machine tool type t-nuts and clamps plus low profile clamping arrangement. Mounting bar can be rotated and clamped in any desired position, to allow the application of the required angle(s) to blade face(s). Specialised fixture for rapid and secure attachment of compact blades for hollow grinding in sets.
The mounting bar guide block/bearing assemblies are located at each end on precision machined guides. Guide blocks are independently adjusted with lead screws operated by hand-wheels. Individual scales indicate the position of each guide block. A simple, clearly graduated protractor drum shows angular position of mounted blades.
Feed control of Grinding head (on precision ground vee slides) is via a handwheel, providing “single point” control of the application of cut. A digital mechanical indicator displays feed position, which is applied at 0.010” (0.25mm) per quarter turn of the handwheel.
Coolant is supplied from a weir type settlement tank by a self-priming coolant pump with a 2m delivery head, via two adjustable flow control and flexible delivery nozzles. Special Centrigrind "F" rust inhibiting, sodium nitrite free, coolant additive is included with the machine. (Only one capful of additive required per tank of coolant). Coolant tank / pump are securely located within the machine’ cabinet. Main catchment tray in the base of the machine chassis is removable for cleaning. Also a smaller unit (with magnetic retention of metallic particles whilst on the machine) is carried on the grinding head (directly beneath the grinding area). Magnetic retention is lost, for easy cleaning, once tray is removed from the carriage.
Adjustable traverse system driven along a single run transmission chain by a 90 watt continuous rated motor/gearbox unit. Direction control is by means of a sliding actuator and adjustable stops operating a limit switch mounted to the grinding carriage. A mechanical override mechanism is used to engage/disengage the traverse independently of the electrical control.
MAIN (GRINDING WHEEL) MOTOR: totally enclosed, fan cooled, 1.2 HP (1kW), 220 volt, 50 /60 cycle (dependent upon country) with capacitor start, controlled by a contactor with adjustable overload through a stop/start button (with lock off safety feature). Motor is of the brushless, induction type for long, maintenance free service. TRAVERSE MOTOR: Continuous rated, 4 pole, 220v, 50Hz, 90 watt output, brushless induction type with integral gearbox, engages chain through a steel sprocket. COOLANT PUMP: Class F, 2 pole, 220v, 50/60Hz, 30 watt output motor, driving a self priming submersible pump unit. HOURS RUN METER: Non re-settable unit displaying main grinding motor run time. All electrical functions controlled by dedicated Benedict and Jaeger contactors (UL/CSA approved) coupled with adjustable overload with external reset button and independent in-line fuses. All external wiring housed in UL/CSA approved sheath or conduit with splash proof glands and housings. In a power-down situation, motors will not automatically start on restoration of power. Main controls housed in one cabinet drawer (sealed). Electrical connections to drawer by approved plug & socket connections. Push button, function, control housed within an enclosure with adjustable (lockable) position
All motors and mechanisms are enclosed by steel and/or rigid plastic guarding. Approved, front access, safety enclosure, fabricated from steel and plastics, fitted as standard. Supplied with safety electrical interlock to prevent unsafe machine operation. Guard supplied with built in task-light illumination.
The following items (packed in dedicated locations in tool drawer liner) are required to enable all bedknives on US market to be ground and are included in the price4 hex keys 1 Stone Wrench 1 Diamond Dresser 1 litre of Rust Inhibiting Coolant Additive Universal clamping items to accommodate the majority of blade types.
