Engineering Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Description

Saturn Machine knives Ltd established over 10 years and based in Sheffield are the UK’s number one manufacturer of wood processing blades and sawmill wear parts. We are committed to the improvement and development of our people and services. We have invested in state of the art CNC machinery and due to continued company growth are looking to recruit an apprentice trained engineer to supervise a team of 5 staff. Duties will include day to day supervision of machine shop staff and ensuring lead times and cycle times are met and improved upon.

The successful applicant will ideally come from a CNC machine shop environment with a strong working knowledge of vertical machining centers in particular Cincinnati’s; also you will have worked with tool steels such as D2 and Chipper. Any lean methods of improvement along with efficiency and quality improvement techniques would be beneficial. The ability to produce drawings from samples and to use cad cam systems will also be a contributing factor.

The position will include planning and organizing materials through the workshop, coordinating man power, ensuring materials availability as well as managing the achievement of daily, weekly and monthly output targets. This position would ideally suit someone who has a CNC machining background with previous supervisory/management experience gained within this environment.

You must be self motivated and be able to problem solve. One of the main roles encompasses being able to program and edit  in Fanuc along with material and tooling selection to the required specification and all processes through to final delivery of an accurate, high quality product meeting customer specifications. Cost reduction by means of better manufacturing methods designing and using jigs and fixtures will also be part of the role.
